At the moment, the preinstalled Latvian keyboard is the only alternative for typing on smart phones. The diacritical letters can be chosen after holding the corresponding basic letters.

The Standard Alefbā-ye 2om keyboard layout makes it possible to enter the diacritical letters ā, č, š and ž directly. This layout should be associated with English keyboards (EN). It is the regular US keyboard layout with the following differences:

 [ / { is replaced by ā / Ā
] / } is replaced by š / Š
\ / | is replaced by ž / Ž
` / ~ is replaced by č / Č

To access the keys `~[ ] \ { }| you need to hold the Alt Gr key followed by any of the those keys.

An extended keyboard layout is provided for many other languages (see below). The layouts are build upon the following principle:

  • The diacritical letters ā, č, š and ž are be obtained by holding the Alt Gr key, followed by any of the basic letters a, c, s and z.
  • Previous regular combinations of the Alt Gr key and any of the basic letters a, c, s and z, if there were any,  are obtained by entering ^ followed by any of those combinations.
  • All other keys remain unchanged and can be used as usuall.
